Festival season is almost upon us and those going to UK festivals are making sure their water proofs aren’t still lying in a damp bag discarded in a corner on return from last year’s Glastonbury. However if you’re going to the festivals in Spain you will be hoping that your water proofs will remain unpacked at the bottom of your ruck sack.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) have offered some important advice for people travelling to Spain for Sonar – Barcelona or Festival Internacional de Benicassim, both music festivals held on the east coast of Spain for fans of sun, sangria and their favourite songs.
According to FCO most festival goers are British and whilst the vast majority of them didn’t have any problems last year, those that did were mainly due to a lost or stolen passport. A quality travel insurance or travel insurance for medical conditions policy will give cover for lost or stolen passports, they will have an emergency telephone number for you to call for advice as well as covering some travelling expenses if needed to pick up a replacement passport.
Before you travel, you should be aware of both the legal system and any nearby medical facilities, such as the closest public hospital at your destination. This will ensure that in the case of an unforeseen incident or emergency, you know what to do or where to go.
Similarly, be aware of others. Whilst the atmosphere might be euphoric and wild, and everyone friendly, crime in foreign festivals is just as common as back home. Keep an eye on your personal belongings and any drinks you have – with people in such close proximity to each other, you’re likely to see or be aware of less, especially when your favourite band is up on stage singing their best song.
Insurancewith specialise in travel insurance with medical conditions and have a specific backpacker policy should you decide to spend the summer going to all the European festivals.
