Cancer Travel Insurance

Many people who have been diagnosed with cancer live relatively normal lives and are able to carry on, with adjustments where needed, as they did before their diagnosis.

An essential part of leading that ‘normal life’, involves going on holiday, and this is where problems can arise, because it can be really difficult to find travel insurance with cancer cover, and when you do, the premium quoted could be more than the cost of the holiday!

Insurancewith offers a range of policies specifically designed for those with a cancer diagnosis, created by people who have experienced the condition first-hand. By working with charities, clinical specialists, and you – our customers – we are always improving our understanding to create products and services to meet your needs.

It’s all part of our efforts to address any of the issues people have when looking for specialist travel insurance.

About us

Insurancewith was created to help people with a wide range of medical conditions get the most suitable cover for their personal needs at a price to suit their budget, including cancers such as breast cancer, blood cancer, bowel cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer to name a few.

Customers tend to come to us after they have been quoted extraordinary prices for specialist travel insurance. They are often worried they will not be able to travel again.

We have worked closely with charities, medical specialists and most importantly, our customers, to refine our medical screening process. By asking relevant and up-to-date questions about conditions, lifestyle, and how you feel within yourself, we can accurately assess how you are doing and give you a quote for bespoke cover that has not been inflated at the mention of a medical condition.

We look at the actual risk instead of the perceived risk of your condition, and in doing so can reduce some premiums our customers have been quoted.

At Insurancewith, we believe everyone deserves a holiday.

Our Founder's Story

Breast Cancer Awareness is something very close to our hearts here at Insurancewith. Our founder, Fiona, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. After undergoing 8 cycles of chemotherapy, she looked forward to a holiday with her family, but faced unexpected obstacles when trying to buy travel insurance. The questions were intrusive, the process was distressing, and the costs were higher than the holiday itself.

Determined to change this, Fiona began researching travel insurance for people with medical conditions. In 2010, she launched Insurancewith, a company built to offer fair and affordable medical travel insurance for people living with medical conditions.

Fiona has said “Insurancewith was created from personal experience. I was determined to be able to offer people who had been diagnosed with breast cancer appropriately priced travel insurance which covered their condition. Everyone deserves to look forward to a holiday without added stress.”

At Insurancewith, we remain committed to making travel possible for those affected by cancer and other medical conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can cancer patients to get travel insurance?

Often, people who have had a cancer diagnosis can find it difficult to get travel insurance cover for their holiday. However, cover is available, the key is speak to a specialist like Insurancewith, and to remain as flexible as you can with regards to travel dates, destinations and duration of travel.

At Insurancewith, we work differently to the rest of the market. Our founder, Fiona, found that often travel insurance policies for people with cancer either weren’t available or were prohibitively expensive.

So, we ask a few more medical screening questions than other providers, but that enables us to tailor your quote to your personal circumstances, and not just assume that everyone with cancer is the same risk. Getting the right kind of cover for your travels, at the most appropriate price is as important to us as it is for you.

How easy is it for people with breast cancer to get travel insurance?

Getting travel insurance with a breast cancer diagnosis can sometimes be a challenge, even when using some more well-known providers. Premiums can, on occasion, end up being prohibitively expensive – and sometimes finding a suitable travel insurance policy can prove to be very difficult.

At Insurancewith, our advisers specifically assess your condition using a medical risk assessment tool called Protectif, which enables us to get a deeper understanding of your circumstances and, where possible, offer you an affordable policy, even if you have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, had chemotherapy, radiotherapy or biological therapy or had surgery in the last few months including:

  • Wide local excision
  • Conservative surgery
  • Secondary cancer
  • Metastatic or terminal cancer

Can I get travel insurance for blood cancer?

  • Immunotherapy
  • Ongoing treatment

Although we ask a few more questions than other providers, getting the right kind of cover on your travels is important.

Can you offer travel insurance for bowel cancer?

Do I need to declare cancer if over 5 years ago?

If you have had cancer, and have had the all clear, even if over 5 years ago, this will still need to be declared on your travel insurance policy.

Why do you need medical travel insurance?

Travel insurance provides the reassurance that, should something happen whilst you’re away, you’re protected. The last thing anyone needs is to be faced with a ridiculously expensive medical bill when they return home from their trip, or need to cancel their holiday and be left out of pocket.

If you do have a medical condition, it’s important that you take out a policy with higher cover levels, especially for medical expenses. It’s always better to be on the safe side and go away knowing that should something happen, you’re protected.

Our medical travel insurance includes cover for the following:

  • Ambulance costs
  • Hospital admissions
  • Any emergency treatment
  • Your flights home
  • Cancellation of accommodation

Can I get travel insurance with pre-existing medical conditions?

Everyone is different, so no travel insurance premium should be the same. To ensure you are quoted for a policy which offers the right cover for you, it’s important that you declare any medical conditions. If a medical condition is not declared, then any claims that arise as a result may not be approved, given that the full situation was not made clear to the insurer. We don’t like calling them pre-existing medical conditions (as we don’t think the term is especially clear), but that’s what you may see them referred to as.

At Insurancewith, we know the reality of a medical condition can vary from person to person. So we don’t pigeon hole people into similar boxes, instead, we ask for information on your medical history and medication you take. This way, we are able to offer a fair premium for a policy which will protect both you and your trip.

Can I obtain travel insurance if my condition is terminal?

Yes, definitely. A terminal condition doesn’t mean that you can’t go on holiday or get cover for your trip. Although some providers may deem you as being ‘too ill’, at Insurancewith we know that more and more people are living with a terminal condition every day – and why should that stop you from going on holiday? We provide cover for thousands of people with a terminal diagnosis every year.
