Advice For Travelling With Diabetes

Our guide to travelling with diabetes includes plenty of helpful tips and tricks to allow you to travel without any obstacles. Just some of our recommendations include:

  • Packing more medication than you need: This will ensure you’ve got medication in the case of delays or losses.
  • Plan ahead before airport security: Consider having a doctor’s letter so you can pass through security without being held up.
  • Keep your insulin cool: In hot weather insulin can become damaged – look out for it turning cloudy or grainy. Try and keep your insulin in a cool place (preferably a fridge).
  • Keep yourself cool: The NHS recommend that you monitor how the hot/cold climate may impact your insulin.* Read the NHS travelling with diabetes guide.
  • EHIC (The European Health Insurance): This healthcare card allows you free public healthcare. Although it is important to have, it should never be used as a substitute for Travel Insurance, as the EHIC will not pay to repatriate you back to the UK, or cover your personal possessions etc.
