The children are now on Easter holiday from school and families are looking forward to taking advantage of all the Bank Holidays coming up and booking a getaway abroad.
Before you go, here are some important points to consider.
Passports and Visas: Make sure all the passports of all travellers are valid and you know the entry requirements for the places you intend to visit. Your passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from entry when visiting certain countries, for example Turkey. Some countries have different requirements depending on which cities you are travelling to and how long you expect to stay, like Egypt.
British nationals normally need a visa to enter Egypt, unless you are travelling to certain resorts for up to 14 days. If you are travelling to the USA you will need to apply for a Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA), see our previous blog ‘Planning a Holiday in the USA?’ for full details.
Driving Abroad: If you are going to be driving whilst abroad, be prepared – find out the local regulations and what documents you need. For example, it’s compulsory to carry a warning triangle and a reflective jacket when driving in France. Furthermore, make sure your car and travel insurance covers you to drive abroad, including breakdown recovery and medical expenses resulting from an accident. If you’re driving your own vehicle, make sure you have advised your motor insurer you are taking the vehicle abroad, and make sure you take the right documents with you, like your log book, and check with your motor insurer if you require a Green Card or an International Driving Permit.
Travel Insurance: Make sure you purchase the correct travel insurance policy for your needs, do not assume all policies are the same and buy your policy on price alone. If you have medical conditions look for a travel insurance provider who offers travel Insurance for pre existing medical conditions. Insurancewith offers a wide range of specialist travel insurance policies for pre existing medical condition travel insurance, prices for one weeks cover start from under £20.00.
