Half-term has now begun and the holiday firms, as usual, have increased their prices in order to cash in on the rush to get abroad for the break. Holiday firms routinely bump up the cost of a sunshine break by as much as 70per cent during school holidays, according to research by Which? However, its researchers found families can make a saving, by changing their holiday pattern.
For example a family of four flying to Majorca in August for one week will be charged £2,334 if travelling with holiday giant Thomson on a Saturday morning in July. The same holiday departing on a Thursday evening in August comes in at £1,480 – a saving of £854.
So the next time you are looking to go abroad during any school holiday it looks like it will pay to look at a midweek departure, however this could be tricky for a week’s half-term break, but should be easily achievable during the long summer holiday.
